An Inland Water Glossary with ontology (partially multi-lingual) has been delivered. The document contains 1481 descriptors in English. The available equivalents in Danish and French have been included. Its compilation required the analysis of EARTh and IOW thesauri; the quality control of the English equivalents of the IOW Thesaurus; the identification, selection and preparation for merging of terms from both sources; the merging, concept based; the orthographic checking and normalisation; the collection of definitions and their sources; the control of semantic coherence between terms and definitions and the control of synonyms, duplicated definitions, crossed references.
A structured list of 376 relevant IW concepts, extracted from the NERI and IOW databases, has been analysed and compiled. The list has been endowed with a set of 482 English synonyms, with equivalents in Danish and French and with definitions in English and French. The final list has been integrated into the EDEN-IW system.
