A scalable design methodology was adopted for ontology modeling. The ontology model consists of two levels: EGV (EDEN Global View) and LDV (Local Database View). EGV gives the common semantic representation of the domain knowledge that could be used by most agents. LDV is the knowledge representation of the local database, which can be mapped into the EGV. The EGV and LDV ontologies are only the core components of the EDEN-IW knowledge representation and management system. The scalable multi-lateral view ontologies can be applied to support the various knowledge usage and extension for the EDEN-IW system.
The user interface is being developed with two different designs. The designs are oriented towards respectively the public user and the domain expert users. In both cases does the functionality include multi-lingual interface; the option of identifying stations via a map interface; selection of multiple data set from different resources and a search that limit the options according to selections already made by the user. Selected data set may be presented as graphs, tables and as downloaded XML file.
